McCarthy’s Oregon Single Malt Whiskey Holiday Gift Guide 2018

Blended with old world tradition with Oregon ingenuity and you get McCarthy’s Oregon Single Malt Whiskey. And the pioneer tradition that made Oregon famous, Steve source two-row peat-malted barley from Scotland and found a local brew work to make the wash. Distilled in 60 gallon Holstein pot stills using single-pass distillation and non-drill filtrate should, McCarthy’s is aged in 36-month air-dried Oregon Oak casks for a minimum of three years. Steve McCarthy was the first US distiller to use Oregon Oak in the early 1990s. The result is a smooth whiskey with a boldly peated flavor profile that has been acknowledged worldwide and is proof that great whiskey knows no boundaries. So being age 3 years it’s 85 proof and 100% Scottish Peat Malted Barley. With smells of peat, a campfire of burning pine needles, with an interesting depth of nuances. No iodine or fishiness, just sappy, resiny peat, mild oak, and an undercurrent of mildly sweet barley. The taste is soft, warm with malty sugar with the mildness of peat and a smooth taste that finishes with pine and peat with evaporating raw alcohol and a vein of oaky bitterness. Lingers like most Islays.
