Boys Town helps to improve the circumstances for those suffering from abuse, addiction, abandonment or violence so they can reach their potential. Boys Town believes today as the founder did 100 years ago, that every child deserves a future, every family deserves to stay together and every community deserves to thrive. Boys Town Press has a variety of books to help kids, The Power Of A Positive No by Kip “Mr. J” Jones with illustration by Chad Isley is about Bernard who is being pressured to fight others. Derf is dealing with a tough home life, it makes questionable choices with some new friends. And Chesley keeps lying to cover up for others. Put all together and you can see that peer pressure is affecting the group in a negative way.
Fortunately, counselor Mr. J is here to help Willie and his friends learn the importance of setting boundaries and saying no when it counts! In this graphic novel, the style will speak to ages 3rd to 8th-grade students as they learn the power of resisting peer pressure.
My Opinion: I really enjoyed the book has great graphics and it really tells a very important theme which is resisting peer pressure. Because just because one person is doing it doesn’t mean that you have to do it just to fit in with that person is not going to make you cool or any different if you give in to peer pressure and that’s a great story this book tells along with true friends wrap near the back of the book.
