Coming to DVD and Blu-ray on August 4, 2015 from RLJ
Entertainment is Blackbird. This movie is directed by Patrik Ian-Polk and
written by Rikki Beadle Blair and Patrik Ian-Polk. Blackbird stars Mo’nique
(Phat Girlz), Isaiah Washington (The 100 TV Series), Kevin Allesse (A+), Julian
Walker (The View TV Series), and Terrell Tilford (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV
Series).
This movie is about seventeen year old Randy who tries very
hard to be a good person. Since his father left, Randy takes care of his
emotionally disturbed mother and he’s the kind of friend all of his classmates
can depend on. As strong as he seems on the outside he is hiding a secret inner
struggle and denial of his true self. It’s not until he opens himself up to
love that becoming a man means accepting who you really are.
My Opinion: This was such an inspirational movie for all
the young men or women out there trying to find themselves sexually and how
religion plays a role in the daily struggle to stay straight. I really enjoyed
this movie but reading did not state it was about gays and lesbians so for
those who do not believe in that this movie is not for you. The cast and
characters were amazing at telling the story written.
